FAQ
BHS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
In order to provide continued communication with our parents, we have tried to answer some frequently asked questions.
What steps do I take when my child will be missing school due to illness, doctor appointments, or is out of town?
Please call the BHS main phone number to report absences within 48 hours of your child missing school in order for the absence to be excused. When you reach the automated phone system you will want to be connected to the Attendance Secretary, Stacy McDaniels. If your child is gone for any length of time during the school day of their athletic event or school activity, KHSAA requires a doctor’s note for your student to be able to participate in the activity/event for that day.
How do I request homework when my child is absent from school?
New this year, if you need homework for your student missing school, please contact each teacher by email. Your student may also collect homework when they return to school. Students have 2 days to make up missing work for each day that they have an excused absence. Email addresses may be obtained on the district website usd348.com. In the email subject line, please type HOMEWORK REQUEST and your student’s name. The BHS main office will no longer be responsible for collecting homework for students.
How do I put money in my student’s lunch account or check their balance?
Parents may put money in their students lunch account two ways. You can set up an account at EZSchoolPay.com, which allows you to add money to your child’s meal account using VISA or Mastercard. You can also send a check to school (made payable to BHS). The check is turned in directly to the cafeteria. Please make out lunch checks separately from other fees, as lunch checks do not go through the BHS main office. Balances can be checked at EZSchoolPay.com or by speaking to the staff in the BHS kitchen.
Can my child leave school for lunch?
No, BHS has a closed campus policy. Students are not allowed to leave the premises for lunch.
When is my student athlete’s user fee due?
Starting this year, Fall user fees will be due by September 11th. The due date for Winter sport fees is December 18th. The Spring fee due date will be announced later.
When is my student athlete’s physical due?
Sports physical are due before your student can attend the first scheduled practice. They must be dated no earlier than May 1, 2009 for this school year’s activities.
How do I find out about the high school’s rules and policies?
All the information you may need to know is located in your student’s planner. They will receive one free of charge during the first day of school. Please take the time to look over this useful resource. It will provide you with information regarding the school and policies such as dress code, cell phone, attendance, discipline, etc.
My student is driving now, what do I need to do about parking at the school?
All students driving a vehicle to school must purchase a parking permit for $3.00 from the BHS main office. The parking permit is a tag that must be hung from the rearview mirror of their vehicle. The permit is a one-time purchase that is valid for all four years of high school. If the tag is lost, it must be replaced for $3.00. Your student will also be required to complete a form providing information about their vehicle (make, model, year, color and license plate number). Just a reminder, the west paved parking lot near the gym is for staff parking only.
Is there a list of supplies for students to bring the first day of classes?
No, students may bring a writing instrument and paper the first day of classes. Their teachers will instruct them as to which supplies are needed after classes begin.
Do I purchase or provide a combination lock if my student is taking PE or weight training classes?
No, a combination lock will be checked-out to students in those classes. There is not a fee for these locks unless the lock is lost or damaged.
